Rick Makokis

Ayiwastinew napew (peaceful man – Rick Makokis) is a nêhiyaw napew (Cree man) from onihcikiskwapowin – Saddle Lake Cree Nation in Treaty Six Territory.

For over five decades, Rick Makokis has been deeply immersed in Cultural and Traditional practices, serving a respected matotisân, Sweat Lodge Holder, and Ceremonial Holder/Elder. Rick Makokis is also a fluent speaker of nêhiyawêwin (the Cree language). Rick Makokis has supported various training and teaching courses that guide human service workers towards developing a more in-depth understanding of Indigenous teachings and concepts. Rick Makokis provides healing-work based in spirit, ceremony and language to children, individuals, families, and communities affected by the impacts of colonization. Rick’s life purpose has been centered around preserving and sharing Indigenous sacred teachings, while creating a bridge between the past and future generations.
